Our consort of alto, treble, tenor, and bass viols plays music spanning the 16th and 17th centuries, including contrapuntal fantasies, pieces based on vocal models, and dances.
Level: intermediate/advanced. Students wishing to learn the viol as beginners should request individual lessons from Arnie Tanimoto and may join the consort in future semesters.
Playing viola da gamba was such a highlight of my time at Princeton, and viol is a wonderful instrument to pick up for the first time at any age! (Molly Herron, ’21)
